Frozen Systems is a Space Battle Simulator with first person view mode in style of FreeSpace and Wing Commander.
You play a fighter’s pilot of Aspirogues (organic-silicon race), which is involved in interstellar conflict of epic proportions with malicious and ruthless Shaarks. Enemy hordes occupy star systems step by step, one planet after another one, razing or enslaving the whole races. Your major task is to expel enemy and to liberate star systems of Abyss Lights Universe on the way.

This game made a good second impression. It was however, extremely fortunate that I have enough patience to fight my way through the initial problems. For many this would have been reason enough to abandon the attempt.
It would be interesting to understand the science of impression. The first screen you see when you actually get into the game is the best (in my opinion). You are approaching what I can only assume is the mother ship, and it looks absolutely outstanding.
Shortly after starting the demo (just long enough for you to figure out how to fly your fighter) the enemy arrives. You have to shoot down 22 Shaark fighters (an incredibly crap name in my opinion). This can be a bit tough the first time through, but isn’t really that challenging.
I didn’t quite get the knack of launching missiles (alternate fire) but when I did get one on target it was extremely gratifying.
It’s also worth mentioning that on the Xbox 360 Controller (and probably others as well) the use of vibration was subtle (in a good way) and appropriate. Definitely added to the experience.
Three things I didn’t like. Firstly a rather trivial point. When you take the throttle back below 50% and release it, it will return to 50%. This is really annoying. Often it is easier to stay on the tail of an enemy if you’re flying slowly. So you find yourself forever throttling back. I found this in Blazing Angels too, so maybe it’s an accepted flying standard, but I’m not at all happy about it.
There was also no technical support from Abyss Lights Studios. Why have a forum if you’re not going to answer people’s questions? This is of limited importance for this release, but is ominous for the full release.
The other thing was that the actual amount of gameplay was very limited. Ok, it is an alpha demo, so I understand that much of the game is still under development. The problem is, that if this was the only demo that I played, I would have very little idea of what content this game actually had. Is there going to be missions where we have to fly through futuristic cities (definitely a game seller for me) or are we going to have only space-based battles? Will the battles always be fighter vs fighter or will there be fighter vs transport (or similar).
These are all questions that I think it’s important the developers of this game answer at some point in the near future.
