In one of the reviews I mentioned that I was a fan of a game called Imperium Galactica. I misread a news article from 2002 about version III being released soon. Stupid internet.
I also downloaded a suspiciously small (~65mb) demo of the “upcoming” game.
The “demo” is a waste of time as it is just a video of a bunch of ships shooting each other with lasers. Perhaps this was impressive in 2002, but doesn’t do anything for me four years later in 2006.
This was how it happened (as far as I can tell):
June 29th 2001 – Imperium Galactica 3 Announced
28th March 2003 – Imperium Galactica 3 renamed Galaxy Andromeda
9th August 2003 – Galaxy Andromeda (IG 3) cancelled
25th November 2003 – Imperium Galactica III becomes Nexus
1st October 2004 – ‘Nexus: The Jupiter Incident’ released
Carrying out the research for the timeline above, I discovered that Nexus had actually been released, and there was another, better sized (120mb) demo.
I played this demo last night. Perhaps it’s because I’m not familiar with the genre, but I found it hard to control, unremarkable and boring. I lost interest after about two minutes.
I really like reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing for me to comment.
